(most recent listed first)

Changes have been made in the summary paper turn-in schedule. We are only going to do three summary papers, and the second is due on Friday, November 9. The third is due Friday, November 30. Finally, the poster is due on Friday, December 7. I strongly suggest that you use the extra time that eliminating one of the summary papers provides, to get on top of the poster. To do well on that major ongoing assignment, you must display depth of thought, not simply a summary of the literature or a glitzy presentation of your data.

The assignment page has been updated as of 10/15. Due dates for all warmups that I handed out today are listed and tagged with "new" signs. I've removed the "new" tags from the paper turn-in schedule, as they remain the same as they have been for the past week or so.

The assignment page has been updated as of 10/1. There are some important changes in the due dates of projects and papers. Be certain to consult the schedule.

The assignment page has been changed to reflect the September 26 due date for the grain size project. It was correctly stated in the previous page, but I hadn't removed the September 14 due date. Sorry for any confusion.

Your first writing assignment is due on Monday, September 17. It's a 3-page summary of the video tape "Flow in Alluvial Channels," which is on reserve in the library. You are also required to include a summary of your observations from the September 12 flume lab. Comments on this lab must be integrated with your comments on the video tape, to make a coherent paper that flows (LOL!)

Grain size data form from your sieve analysis of the Jordan Formation is due in class this Friday, September 7.

Extensive changes have been made to the assignment page. Blue colors indicate field and lab work, red colors represent exams or assignments that are due.

Shelby Frost is our TA this semester. Her email is sjfrost7129@winona.edu. Feel free to contact her for assistance in the field or lab, or if you have questions about the lecture material. You should also contact me for assistance. My office hours are given below, but it's often more convenient to arrange an appointment. Email is a good way to contact me for that purpose.

Field work for the first part of our course research project is outlined in the field project section of our course web page

Field Groups for course research projects will be assigned by the end of Monday afternoon, August 27.
