The Responsible Conduct in Research (RCR) Program contains four online education modules covering nine core instructional areas identified by the federal Office of Research Integrity as critical to promoting ethical conduct in research.  The initial program was developed by a Task Force that included faculty representatives from all the Colleges and the Library and staff from MSUAASF.

The modules contain information on federal regulations covering the use of animal and human subjects in research, financial conflicts of interest and misconduct in research. They also include information on WSU and/or state policies related to those topics, as well as information gleaned from library resources and other institutions' RCR web sites. The Office of Research Integrity has extensive resource listings for anyone interested in exploring any of the instructional areas in more depth.

Basic Issues in Responsible Conduct in Research - Links to an education module (htm.format) addressing issues in data acquisitions, management, sharing and ownership; collaborative science; mentor-trainee responsibilities; peer review; and publication practices and responsible authorship. (Also available in Power Point format.)

General Regulatory Issues in Responsible Conduct in Research - Links to an education module (.htm format) addressing federal rules and WSU regulations on conflicts of interests and commitments and research misconduct. (Also available in Power Point format.)

Human Subjects - Links to the Human Subjects Education Module (.htm format) that explains the federal regulations covering research involving human participants.  (Also available in PowerPoint format.)  Researchers at WSU are required to complete an approved education module. Anyone may review the education modules on the Grants Web site, but to complete the required quiz, researchers must enroll in the online Desire to Learn (D2L) course. You can self-register in the course.  Simply use your username and password to login to D2L at https://winona.ims.mnscu.edu/ and click Self-Registration on the toolbar.  Select Human Subjects Education Module.  In Step 1, click on Register; in Step 2, click on Submit; in Step 3, click Finish.  A Registration Summary will appear.  If you click on the Go to Human Subjects Module, you will go directly to the coursre. If you do not want to go to the course immediately after enrolling, click on Done and you will go back to your D2L Home Page. The next time you login to D2L, you will find a link to the course under Campus. Click on the + sign to the left of the word campus to see a list of courses and click on Human Subjects Education Module to go to the course. Contact the G&SP Office if you have any problems with enrolling in or accessing the course.

Animal Subjects - Links to an Animal Subjects Education Module (.htm format) that explains the federal regulations covering research and teaching activities involving animals. (Also available in PowerPoint format.)
