WSU received a MN Schools Cutting Carbon program grant to install a solar panel to power the fountain by Gildemeister Hall. The grant also provided for energy auditors to do an abbreviated energy audit on three campus buildings as part of a Topics in Environmental Chemistry class. As an institution of higher education, our goal is to educate the next generation about how to incorporate renewable energy into their homes and businesses.
WSU is a finalist in the MN Pollution Control Agency Environmental Assistance Grant which would pay for interfacing equipment that could easily incorporate installed renewable energy into the curriculum. An online course, the Energy Resource Advisor Certificate class is currently being developed as well.
Future goals include:
- Solar Thermal heating of the Memorial Hall or Lourdes Hall swimming pool
- Becoming a partner on a wind turbine with Winona County
- Solar heating of new pedestrian tunnel
- Solar panels for the laptop university
