Zipcar launches at WSU

Zipcar provides you the freedom of car ownership – the ability to get off campus for errands, entertainment or road trips – without the cost and hassle of owning a car. All reservations include fuel, insurance, parking, roadside assistance and 180 free miles per day. You buy pizza by the slice, download music by the song… why not only pay for the car by the drive?

Q: What are the benefits to having a Zipcar program on campus?

Paying for college can be overwhelming. Add the cost and hassle of owning a car, and what do you get? A whole lot of unnecessary stress. On average, Zipcar members save $500 a month compared to owning a vehicle. The beauty of Zipcar is this: You can get where you need to go and enjoy all the benefits of car ownership without having to think about gas prices, maintenance, insurance or parking, plus you get 24-hour roadside assistance.

Q: How do I join and what does it cost?
All WSU students (18+) can join Zipcar for only $35 per year! You’ll also get $35b in driving credit during your first month of membership. You can reserve a car for the low daily rate of $8 an hour or $66 a day on weekdays and $9 an hour and $72 a day on weekends. Be sure to sign up at: www.zipcar.com/winona.

Q: How does Zipcar work to save the environment?
Did you know that every Zipcar takes 15-20 personally-owned vehicles off the road? To date, Zipcar estimates that it has taken more than 50,000 vehicles off the road.

Q: How do I make a reservation?
Reservations can be made one minute in advance or up to a year in advance!
Reservations can easily be made in five different ways:
1. Online at www.zipcar.com/winona
2. Zipcar’s iPhone application allows you to locate, reserve, unlock and even
honk the horn from your iPhone
3. With a live person over the phone
4. Through your mobile phone web browser
Zipcar also allows you to sign up for an SMS 2-way system that will alert you when your reservation is almost over. SMS will allow you to text back and extend your reservation if the vehicle is available.

Q: Where are the cars located?
WSU’s Zipcars, one Toyota Prius and two Toyota Matrix, are parked conveniently in designated Zipcar parking spaces in the lot between Kryzsko Commons and Sheehan Hall.
Students ages 18-20 can use the Zipcars that live on the WSU campus while members 21+ can enjoy access to 6,000 Zipcars worldwide. Zipcars are located at more than 100 universities across North America as well as in cities such as Washington, D.C., Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, London, New York, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Portland, San Francisco, Seattle, Toronto and Vancouver.
