Spring 2009 Warriors Walk Pedometer Program!

What is it?

The Warriors Walk is a 6-week, team-based, pedometer walking program.  Teams of 5 will compete against each other to see which team can accumulate the highest amount of steps at the end of the program.  The fee is $3 per person.  Each person will receive a pedometer to keep track of their daily steps, and also receive tips and walking routes available through this website.

Who can join?
  • Any combination of 5 WSU faculty, staff, or students can enter as a team.
  • Each team must choose a team name, and a captain.
  • The team captain will be responsible for turning in their team’s total steps each week.
Why should I join?

According to the CDC, a person should get in 10,000 steps each day, which is about five miles. So we say it’s time to get up and walk away those winter “blahs!” Joining the Warriors Walk program will motivate you, build community and increase daily your physical activity. You and your teammates can encourage each other to get moving!  Plus, the winning team will receive really cool prizes at the end of the six weeks!

When is it?
  • The program begins Monday, March 9th, 2009
  • Teams may sign up anytime between now and then.
  • The program will run for six weeks, and end program celebration!
Where do we walk?

You can walk anywhere that is convenient for you and your lifestyle in order to get your steps in each day.  The website will provide different walking routes around campus, the lakes, and indoor routes. If you exercise in other ways, such as swimming or biking, please see the step conversion website link below.

Pedometer Troubleshooting

Problem: Not all your steps were detected

  • Mount the pedometer properly near the center of your body. The paces are detected via the movement of the waist.

Problem: Obscure display

  • Low Battery, replace with new battery.
  • Ambient temperature is too low. The normal display will recover when the temperature rises.

Problem: LCD is black

  • The pedometer has been put under direct sunlight or operated in high temperature too long. It will recover normal status under the shade.
