Influenza

Influenza is an illness that can be very disrupting to a students' ability to study and participate in classes for a period of up to 3-4 weeks.  The influenza vaccine will be offered during the fall semester on campus at no cost to students.

Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR)

Although one injection is mandatory for college admission, it is recommended that a second MMR be given before elementary school, or middle school.   There have been outbreaks of Measles on college campuses and at that time all students are advised to receive a second injection if they have not done so before.   This vaccine is available at the Winona Clinic and Winona County Health Service.

Meningitis

Immunization of college students against meningitis is controversial.   Current studies have shown a slight increase risk in contacting meningitis for college students who live in dorms (3.24 per 100,000 vs .96 per 100,000 who live off campus).  The American College Health Association recommends that college students consider immunization.  The vaccine is available at the WSU Health Service for $87.00.  Health Service also offers a Meningitis Vaccination clinic each fall.  The dates and times of the clinic are advertised on campus and also on this website's front page when scheduled.

Any student with a new positive result may require a chest x-ray.
