In preparation for our camping trip, we had the students swamp canoes in the Lourdes pool. It it important to understand the feeling of flipping over in a canoe, so that if it happens during a real trip, you don't panic and you know how to respond. It was especially fun, I think, because that is not something you normally get to do in an orientation class. It's important to explore the world outside of your comfort zone every now and then, and we did just that.
