Long-Term Care Insurance

Long-term care insurance pays for a variety of services for people who are unable to care for themselves due to an injury such as paralysis from a car accident, a chronic illness such as arthritis, an acute episode such as a stroke, or a cognitive impairment like Alzheimer’s.

Long-term care services may include assistance in the home or adult day care center with nursing or personal care activities, or confinement in an assisted-living facility or nursing home.

Health insurance only pays for short periods of skilled long-term care while persons are recuperating. Long-term care insurance is meant to pick up where health insurance leaves off.
