I. Call to order - Meeting was called to order at 3:36 pm by Chair Charla Miertschin.

IV. Chair’s report
A. Catalog *’s e-mail
B. Class drop policy (senate referral) – 2004-2005 and 2005-2006 academic calendars starts on a Thursday in spring semester. For a closed class you can drop students who do not show up. What about classes which are not closed? Please discuss this in department meetings.
C. Academic program review policy, senate referral; chair will e-mail this revised policy to A2C2 members; Senate would like response by Nov. 17.

VI. General Education substitution
A. Josh Piotrowicz - transfer credits for humanities, social sciences, different cultures and general credits from Minnesota Bible College, Rochester, MN.

Thompson/Quella, m/s, to approve the substitution of Humanities II for Humanities. Discussion followed about not accepting courses from a non-accredited school. Chair noted that course was accepted for credit, but not accepted as specific gen ed requirements. Miller/Boseker, m/s, to table pending receipt of syllabi and faculty credentials.  Motion passed.

Buttram/Campbell, m/s, to disapprove the substitution of Issues of Medical Science for Social Sciences and Life of Christ - Gospel of Matthew for Different Cultures. Much discussion was made.  Thompson/Schumacher, m/s, to call the previous question.  Motion passed.  Original motion to disapprove failed.

  • USP Flags in catalog - Working on catalog copy, want to have complete list of flags in the catalog. Placement of this list is under consideration. USS asked for input.
  • A. USP Course substitutions - revised forms included in representatives’ packets. Discussed new form. Guideline 3 prompted discussion regarding review by Department. Changed ‘if approved’ to ‘after review’. Guidelines and Form were approved as amended.

    C. Geoscience

    1. GEOS 115 Meteorology (4 SH): course title change to Meteorology with Laboratory and course description change. New: Study of the earth’s dynamic weather system including atmospheric structure, composition, and processes; origin and development of storms and related phenomena. Lecture and laboratory. Offered in alternate years, normally in the spring semester. Prerequisites: none. NOTE: A student may enroll in either GEOS 115 or GEOS 116, but cannot earn credit for both courses.

    D. History

    1. B.A. Major - History: Add HIST 496 Senior Research Seminar I (3 SH) and remove ENG 210 Advanced Expository Writing (3 SH) from list of required courses. With the revision of HIST 495 Senior Research Seminar I from 4 SH to 3 SH, the electives will be increased from 20 SH to 21 SH.
