Candidate Biographies

Dr. Holly Shi

Since 2010, Dr. Holly Shi has served as the Interim Dean of International Programs at Winona State University.  She is also the Director of the English Language Center (2008 to present) and a Professor of English (2002 to present) at WSU.  Other positions that she has held include Assistant Professor of English at Teikyo Loretto Heights University (1991-1995), Instructor of English at Indiana University (1990-1991), and Lecturer of English at Shanghai International Studies University (1977-1986).

Dr. Shi received her B.A. in English from Shanghai International Studies University. She earned her M.A. in English (TESOL) and Ph.D. in English (Rhetoric and Linguistics) from Indiana University of PA.


Dr. Nathan Myers

Dr. Nathan Myers has served as the Executive Director for the International Programs (since 2011) and as an Associate Professor in Educational Foundations (since 2005) at Ashland University.  He has also served as the Director for the Center for Educational Development and Research at Ashland University (2007-2011).  Other positions that he has held include a Teaching Fellow of Educational Policy Studies and Evaluation at the University of Kentucky (2002-2005). 

Dr. Myers received his B.A. in History from Mount Vernon Nazarene College and his Ph.D. in Educational Policy and Evaluation from the University of Kentucky.

 

Dr. Karl Markgraf

Since 1998, Dr. Karl Markgraf has served as the Director for the Center of International Education at University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.  He has also served as the Director for International Programs and Services at Michigan Technological University (1994-1998). Other positions that he has held include Assistant Professor of German at Millsaps College and International Studies Officer at Associated Colleges of the South (1990-1994) and Lecturer in the Department of Germanic and Slavic Languages and Literatures at University of Florida (1988-1990).

Dr. Markgraf received his B.A. in German from the University of Oregon and his M.A. and Ph.D. in German Language and Literature from the University of Wisconsin – Madison.

 

Dr. Gabriel Manrique

Since 2011, Dr. Gabriel Manrique has served as the Chair for the Department of Economics at Winona State University.  He has also served as a Globalization Specialist at Fastenal Company (2010-2013).  Other positions that he has held at WSU include Interim Chair for the Theatre & Dance Department (2008-2009), the Dean for the College of Business (2005-2007), the Director for Outreach and Continuing Education (2005-2008), the Chair for the Economics and Finance Department (1996-2005), and the Director of the MBA Program (1994-1996).  He has been a Professor of Economics at WSU since 1989.

Dr. Manrique received his B.A in Psychology from Ateneo de Manila University, his M.A in International Affairs from Ohio University, and his Ph.D in Economics from University of Notre Dame. 

Dr. Mark Bannantyne

Dr. Mark Bannantyne is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Information and Graphics Technology and the Special Advisor to the School on International Engagement at Purdue University (IUPUI).  He has also served as the Chair for the Department of Design and Communication Technology (2008-2012) and the Chair for the Department of Mechanical Engineering Technology (2004-2008) at Purdue University (IUPUI).  Other positions that he has held include Associate Professor in Department of Computer Graphics Technology at Purdue University (1997-2004) and Assistant Professor of Instruction and Curricular Studies at the University of Nevada – Las Vegas (1995-1997).

Dr. Bannantyne received his B.S. in Industrial Teacher Education and his M.S in Industrial Technology from Utah State University.  He received his Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from Purdue University.  In addition, he has been appointed a Fulbright Scholar three times.
