THE LAPTOP ADVANTAGE

Laptop computers give students the opportunity to personalize and further their college experiences beyond a traditional computer lab.
With a laptop, you can do your work when and where you want. You can now bring your laptop to class to take notes, access the Internet and create advanced presentations. You will be able to customize your laptop to meet your individual needs with a degree of privacy not available in computer labs.
Students will find themselves using their laptop computer in a number of ways:
- Accessing special course software and data in and out of the classrooms
- Creating web accessible resumes (eFolios)
- Creating their own web pages
- Conducting research via the Internet
- Having immediate access to electronic resources (rather than using a computer lab)
- Interacting with faculty and fellow students via e-mail, video conferencing, and instant messenger
- Personal use: music, chats, web surfing, lots more!
- Preparing papers and presentations
- Receiving syllabi and class information electronically
- Submitting assignments directly to faculty online
- Working in online study groups
Network access is available in a number of wired classrooms, the library, Kryzsko Commons, all residence hall rooms, student lounges and study areas. Printers for student use are conveniently located in these areas as well. Local dial up access to the WSU network is available from Winona and Rochester. Wireless network access is also available on the Winona campus.
