Laptop Program

Laptop on Campus The WSU Laptop Program consists of a fully configured PC or Macintosh laptop computer, software, and technical support to meet the educational needs of our students. WSU is committed to providing students with knowledge and experiences needed for lifelong learning; continued use of the laptop can enhance that experience.

Students are provided a laptop computer from the WSU laptop pool suitable for their academic needs. They will choose from a PC or Macintosh laptop computer. Each laptop comes with a standard software suite which includes: Microsoft Office, email, web browsers, and anti-virus applications. Department specific applications can be installed by request.

Network access is available in a number of pre-wired classrooms, the library, all residence hall rooms, student lounges, and study areas. Printers are located throughout campus for student use. Local dial-in access to the WSU network is available from Winona and Rochester. Students can take their laptop with them to classes for note taking, access to the internet, online discussions, and do advanced presentations with it.

The Technical Support Center supplies support for the laptops through email, phone support and a large laptop walk-in support area. The TSC is staffed by technical personnel whose job is to solve problems and answer questions about the laptop computers provided in the program. The TSC will do whatever is necessary to provide minor repairs or service, as well as to exchange leased laptops that are in need of more serious repairs.
