Smartboard Operation
  • You must have Smartboard software installed on your laptop in order to use the Smartboard system.
  • Go to Smartboard web site: http://www.smarttech.com/products/registration/software.asp   to download to your laptop.
  • Disconnect the VGA cable from the computer & plug into your laptop.  If you are using a Macintosh Ibook, unplug the smart board cable from the computer & plug into the ibook.  If you are using an IBM laptop, you will need to use the black smart board cable found in the cabinet.  Disconnect the white cable from the smart board & plug in the black cable.  The other end plugs into your laptop.  Make sure the power supply is plugged into an outlet.
  • You may use the Smarboard screen to project your data or video image without using Smartboard system.
  • To use Smartboard system click on the Smart Board Icon which should be on your desktop.
  • To use the Smartboard touch system on the screen all pens slots must be filled with either dry-erase markers, or the Smartboard Stylus pens.
  • To write electronically on the board, remove the pen from the color slot that you wish to have projected. You can either write with a Smartboard stylus pen, or with your finger.

Note: when you are in the "electronically writing mode," you can not use the Smartboard touch system, but if you are in the touch system, you have the option to use a small writing window.

If your cursor does not appear, but only shows the erase cursor, --you should press the Alt & tab keys, to get the cursor back.

  • Detailed Smartboard instructions are available, in the Manual.  If you do not have a copy of this manual, check with Stephanie at Media Services (#5635) for a short-term loan.  Copies of this manual will not be left in the classroom.

  • We have orientated this Smartboard at the recommended Medium option.

This will not have to be done again, unless the power is disconnected, or the Smartboard is bumped.  If you need to re-orientate the Smartboard, please do the following:

Click on Orientate Board option

You have three choices:

Fast--requires 9 touches, (fast, basic accuracy)

Medium--requires 20 touches, (recommended --standard accuracy)

Slow--requires 80 touches (fine accuracy)

After choosing the number of points, the next screen that will appear is the orientation screen.

You need to press on the yellow square in the center of each cross that  appears on the screen, with your finger or with a stylus pen.
