December 28, 2006 - MnPALS Catalog software maintenance will occur. There will be no access to the Library's catalog (please use the Worldcat catalog to view WSU's materials). There will also be no access to the WSU Library databases from off campus during this time. To use the Library's databases you will need to be on campus or stop by the library.

November 2006 - In early November the Academic Assistance Center will move to Library room 206. The larger space will accomodate the AAC and other student tutoring services (coordinated through Jillian Quandt- in Advising).

September 18, 2006 - Dr. Larry Hardesty joined the WSU Library as its interin University Librarian Administrator. Dr. Hardesty has a distinguished administrative experience and will bring a wealth of experience dealing with libraries and higher education setting .

Dr. Hardesty Larry Hardesty has served as Dean of the Library at the University of Nebraska at Kearney (UNK), College Librarian at Austin College, and Director of Library services at Eckerd College.  He also served as Head of the Reference Department at DePauw University. He has a PhD from Indiana University-Bloomington, School of Library and Information Science, Master of Science in Education (Instructional Systems Technology). He also has a masters in Library Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a Masters of Science in Education (History) from the University of Nebraska-Kearney.

He continues to serve as liaison from ACRL to the National Resource Center for the First Year Experience and Students in Transition. His publications include Books, Bytes and Bridges  (ed.) (ALA, 2001), Bibliographic Instruction in Practice (ed.) (Pierian Press, 1993), and Faculty and the Library (Ablex, 1991).  His article “Faculty Attitudes towards the Library” published in Library Trends on received ACRL’s Instruction Section’s Publication of the Year Award in 1995.  Hardesty also has served on the editorial boards of Journal of Academic Librarianship, and Collection Management, and he currently serves on the editorial boards of portal, and Library Issues  He has written numerous journal articles on such topics as computer center and library relations, collection development, classroom faculty members’ attitudes toward the library, chief academic officers’ attitudes toward the library, accreditation, the future of academic libraries, and library instruction. -(8/2006)

July 3, 2006 The Library would like to welcome Allison Quam as the new Reference & Liaison Librarian. This probationary position was redescribed after librarian Bill Palzer retired this spring 2006. You may know Allison from last year; she was the sabbatical replacement for Russ Dennison for the academic year 2005-2006. Allison has a masters in Library Science and a subject Masters of Fine Arts in Creative Writing both from the University of Maryland. Welcome Allison!

May 12, 2006 The Library is switching from the old interlibrary loan system, run on the retiring PALS computer system, to the new Interlibrary Loan system, run on the current library system, called MnPALS. See the Interlibrary Loan Page.

May 9, 2006 Early American Imprints cataloging records are loaded into the WSU Library Catalog. Now patrons can search in the regular book catalog for works prior to 1800 and then click on a Web link in the record to go to the full text at Evans Digital.

April 7, 2006 Hundreds of guests to the Inauguration of our new University President, Judith Ramaley, came to a reception in the Krueger Library. Maintenance reports no bad spills on the carpet. Hundreds of balloons were left in rememberance of the celebration.

September 12, 2005 The Darrell W. Krueger Library at Winona State University announces the availability of a new resource for the study of the history of Winona, Minn., and the surrounding region. The Winona Newspaper Project is a searchable online archive of three late 19th century and early 20th century Winona newspapers. This archive includes available issues of the Winona Argus, the Winona Daily Republican and the Winona Republican Herald. When complete, the archive will include issues from 1857 to 1925 and include more than 123,000 pages of text. The public can view the newspapers at the Winona Newpapers Project.

August 31, 2005 Three new people have joined the staff. Allison Quam replaces Russell Dennison, who is on sabbatical for August 2005-June 2006. Among her duties are Reference Librarian and Departmental liaison for the Business Administration, Marketing, MISO, Physical Education and Recreation departments. Brian Ohm has joined the Library staff as a temporary library technician. He will be working in the Information Gallery and will be providing Library Department Chair/Administration support. Janet Hines is the Administrative Assistant for the Library Department.

August 25, 2005 The Krueger Library announces new policies regarding videos. See current video news at the Video FAQ Page. Most newsworthy, the Library will begin the semester without scheduling and delivery for Faculty.

April 29, 2005: The WSU Library has been renamed the Darrell W. Krueger Library in honor of retiring WSU President Krueger. Click here for further information about the ceremony.

January 17, 2005: The WSU Library has begun the RefWorks Service, which is a web-based citation manager provided by WSU for faculty, students, and staff. It can automatically create bibliographies for papers, formating citations according to many different citation styles (APA, MLA, Chicago, etc.).

December 7, 2004: The WSU Library has begun the Find It! Service, which is a cross-database integrator powered by SFX software. This allows patrons in one database to access the Full-Text of an article from another database. If the Full Text is not available, it offers the patron an Interlibrary Loan form already filled out with the citation.
