Ormsin Sornmoonpin Gardiner Scholarship
Born in Thailand and educated in her native country and Great Britain, Ormsin Sornmoonpin Gardiner worked as a professor and engineer. She joined the faculty at Winona State in 1983, and retired as professor emerita in 2000.
Students often spoke of Ormsin as kind and patient with a commitment to helping them succeed. That commitment continues through the Ormsin Sornmoonpin Gardiner Scholarship.
“Although my interest is mainly in science, my husband established a scholarship in another area which makes it ideal,” says Ormsin of Harry Gardiner, professor emeritus at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
“Math, physics, and engineering are fields I care deeply about. I myself had the benefits of scholarships in each of these fields throughout my undergraduate and graduate education.”
“I realized the support helped in many, many ways. This scholarship is one way to motivate students to excel in science and mathematics. For some, it may inspire them to continue on to graduate school or professions in mathematics and science.”
The Ormsin Sornmoonpin Gardiner Scholarship is awarded to students in the physics, mathematics, and mathematics education departments at Winona State. Students must carry an overall grade point average of 3.25, and a math GPA of 3.5.
