Dr. Russell Smith, Chairperson WelcomeWSU's Marketing Program is designed to provide students with a professional education leading to positions in business, government, and other organizations, as well as preparation for the advanced study of marketing and business at the graduate level. This is accomplished by the continued development of new courses, progressive curriculum design, and innovative program activities that employ the latest technology and hands-on practice with real-world projects. A Career in MarketingThere are different types of marketing careers for different types of people. Some careers require people who enjoy working with other people, others are more fitting for people who enjoy working with their hands, and still others require people who are good with information. Regardless, career opportunities are many which is why 60% of all college graduates taking their initial job in sales, marketing, or customer service. In the general workforce, 25%-35% of all jobs are marketing related and it turns out that 50%+ of people in senior management ranks have a marketing background. Salary and compensation is very competitive. The American Almanac of Jobs and Salaries ranks the median income of marketer's number 10 in a list of 125 professions. New graduates average around $30,000 starting salaries, ranging between$20,000 and $45,000. More experienced marketers often make upwards of $100,000 depending upon their area of specialization.
