The Public Relations option is designed for students who want a career in the field of public relations, whether in PR firms, nonprofit organizations, government agencies, private companies or as freelancers.
In addition to the department’s academic core classes and professional skills core classes, students in the Public Relations option take courses in PR principles, PR cases, PR writing, PR techniques and strategies and PR campaigns.
Students in Public Relations have gone on to jobs in PR agencies, private companies, nonprofit organizations and government agencies. Graduates have moved on to such careers as:
• Public affairs and market specialists
• Publicists and PR specialists
• Event planners
• Press secretaries
• Public information officers
