As a native of Wyoming, Zoe Shepherd has performed in and appeared as soloist with many symphonic bands, symphony orchestras and opera orchestras in the Rocky Mountain region of Wyoming and Colorado before moving to Minnesota in 1992. Ms. Shepherd is currently principal flutist with the Winona Symphony Orchestra and flutist/piccoloist with the Winona Municipal Band. She has performed with the LaCrosse Symphony Orchestra and has appeared as a soloist with the Winona Symphony Orchestra, the Winona State University Symphonic Wind Ensemble and the Winona Municipal Band.
Ms. Shepherd is a founding member of The Wind River Trio, a chamber ensemble in residence at Winona State University consisting of Shepherd, flute, James Hoch, clarinet, and Barbara DuFresne, piano. The trio is part of the Artist Series of the Thursday Musical Club in Minneapolis and they perform in Minneapolis, St. Paul, and Southern Minnesota yearly.
Before attending college, Ms. Shepherd toured Europe with the select America's Youth in Concert Wind Ensemble. She received her Bachelor and Master degrees from the University of Wyoming studying flute with Katherine Kemler. Further flute studies were accomplished with Sylvia Greenfield (University of Northern Colorado), Jim Walker (University of Southern California), and Gro Sandvik at the Grieg Academy in Bergen, Norway.
Before moving to Minnesota, Ms. Shepherd taught flute, chamber ensembles and Music Theory at Central Wyoming College.
Currently, she is teaching flute and flute ensembles for Winona State University and maintains an active flute studio within the Winona community.
Since 1992 Shepherd has premiered several new works for flute, piccolo, and alto flute by James S. Hoch. Ms. Shepherd is featured on the 2004 CD release of "From Within...Music of James S. Hoch". She and The Wind River Trio were featured on the 1998 CD release of "Jubilance! Music of James S. Hoch".
