Students electing a performance major (B.A. Performance) must pass a performance review at the end of the first year to receive full acceptance into the performance degree program. Methods of assessment include juries, recitals and written examinations. Admission Requirements for Music MinorsAll incoming students who wish to minor in music must:
Students will receive a letter confirming their status. If admitted, the student will enter either as a music major, or as a major with Probationary Status (at the discretion of performing area full-time faculty and if sufficient room is available in the applied studio). Audition Procedures and Dates
Auditions for both admission into the music program and for scholarships are held every year during the Spring semester. A music theory and aural skills assessment exam is also administered on scholarship audition days. Summer Registration
Students who do not declare a music major or minor until summer registration and have not auditioned, will need to take the theory and aural skills test during the first week of classes. Auditions must be held prior to the end of the first week of classes. Application forms must be completed at registration. Probationary Status
Music majors or minors will need to take lessons at the 060 level (credits do not count towards graduation) and, depending on their theory entrance exam scores, may need to take the Introduction to Theory course (MUS 120) to improve their knowledge and skill levels to that of a fully-admitted first year music major or minor. |
