Symphonic Wind Ensemble
Dr. Donald Lovejoy
Participating in a band ensemble is considered a one credit class which can be used towards your the music major or minor. For non-music majors and minors, this credit can be used as a university studies credit towards graduation. If students are interested in joining an ensemble - or multiple ensembles – but do not own a musical instrument, the music department has a limited supply of instruments ranging from flutes to trumpets to English horns. These instruments can be used free of charge. Private instruction is also offered for all band instruments. There are many things that set our program apart from other Band programs. Every year the Wind Ensemble hosts the WSU High School Honor Band Festival. This event draws students from Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa. The students who are selected for the Honor Band are eligible for WSU music scholarships. Another unique feature of the WSU Band program is they tour regionally. They have been noted for their exemplary interpretation of the most challenging wind literature. Lastly, here are a few pieces of information that will be helpful in preparing to get involved in the Band program:
There are many wonderful opportunities awaiting prospective students at Winona State University. We hope that incoming students will consider the Band program in search for academic excellence. For further information about the WSU Bands, please contact Dr. Donald Lovejoy.
