WSU Receives “Best in Midwest” Designation
Story by: WSU Office of University Communication
Winona State University has been named among the "Best in the Midwest" by The Princeton Review, a well-known national college ranking program, for the sixth consecutive year.
WSU is one of 158 Midwestern schools receiving the designation. Of the 16 Minnesota schools on the list, WSU and University of Minnesota are the only public institutions earning the designation. WSU is the only university in the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system to receive the designation.
Other Minnesota schools included on Princeton Review's 2010 “Best in the Midwest” list are: Augsburg, Carleton, Crown College, Gustavus Adolphus, Hamline, Macalester, Minneapolis College of Art and Design, North Central University, Saint Mary’s University of Winona, St. Catherine, St. Olaf, St. Scholastica, St. Thomas, and University of Minnesota (Twin Cities and Crookston campuses).
In total 640 colleges across the Midwest, Northeast, West and Southeast named were named "regional bests." According to the Princeton Review these colleges represent only about 25 percent (one out of four) of the nation's 2,500 four-year colleges.
The Princeton Review’s annual Best Colleges: Region by Region rankings are based on student opinion data from the schools. Students are asked to rate their own schools on several issues -- from the accessibility of their professors to quality of the campus food -- and answer questions about themselves, their fellow students and their campus life.
The Princeton Review is a New York-based company known for its test preparation courses, books, and college admission and other education services. It is not affiliated with Princeton University, and it is not a magazine.
