Student Featured in National Magazine
Story by: WSU Office of University Communication
A Winona State University student’s photos are getting national attention.
Two photos by Gina Culp were published in the spring 2009 edition of PDNEDU, a national publication of Photo District News geared toward emerging photographers and photography educators.
Culp, from Winona, Minn., is a junior at WSU and is focusing her studies in the mass communication department in public relations. She has always enjoyed photography and appreciates the opportunity to express her creativity through photography.
In each issue of PDNEDU magazine, the work of a student photographer is featured in a section called “StudentPhotoOp.”
Culp submitted several photos, a statement about her photography and how the magazine has helped shape her approach to visual communication.
“PDNEDU impacts the way I see and take photos, and I am grateful for that,” Culp said in her letter to the magazine.
Culp said she was shocked when the PDNEDU editor called to announce that her work would be featured in the spring edition.
“I was proud, but a little scared,” said Culp. “It’s cool to know that thousands of people will see your work. But then I had to make sure the photos I submitted were truly worthy of that kind of attention.”
Culp is the daughter of Ernest and Deb Culp of Winona, Minn.
