WSU Track and Field Coach Named "Coach of the Year"
Story by: WSU Office of University Communication
Winona State University’s assistant track and field coach Mike Turgeon has been named the 2007 Division II North Central Region Women’s Assistant Coach of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Turgeon was honored to receive the award but said the credit should be shared with other head and assistant coaches at WSU, who also deserve recognition for producing high quality athletic teams.
“This award is a reflection of coaching high quality student-athletes,” Turgeon said. “I was blessed to work with nine incredibly talented and dedicated women throwers this past year.”
Turgeon has worked at WSU for three years. He earned a bachelor’s degree in health and physical education and a master’s degree in sports administration from the University of Wisconsin La Crosse.
Turgeon is a six-time NCAA Division III All-American in the Discus and Weight Throw. He is a two-time NCAA Division III National Champion in the discus, and four-time Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Champion and record holder in the discus.
