WSU Offers Sesquicentennial Calendar Story by: WSU Office of University Communication Winona State University announces the availability of a 17-month sesquicentennial themed calendar. The calendar features daily historical trivia, vintage photographs and listings of major sesquicentennial events. Sesquicentennial coordinator Beth Halleck describes the trivia as “everything from the purely academic to amusingly social.” An example of the calendar’s trivia, dating back to Sept. 7, 1938, reads: “Early this morning, police foiled an attempt to steal registration money from a safe in Somsen Hall. Patrolmen investigating a year-old robbery happened upon a group of nefarious men. Shots are fired at the men during the chase, but they escaped.” WSU alumnus Cody Mathers researched all trivia. Major events featured range from April’s Gala Week to annual WSU events like the Department of Theatre’s children’s show. The calendar retails for $2.50 and is available at WSU’s bookstore, located in Kryzsko Commons. Bookstore hours are Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. WSU’s Sesquicentennial kicks off with a picnic Saturday, Sept. 29, at 11:15 a.m. in WSU’s Courtyard.
