WSU Receives Grant for "Our Drinking Fountains, Our Water"
Story by: WSU Office of University Communication
Five local institutions will collaborate with Minneapolis-based In the Heart of the Beast Puppet-Mask Theater to spearhead a community wide program, "Our Drinking Fountains, Our Water."
Winona State University, Saint Mary’s University, Minnesota State College Southeast Technical, Southeast Minnesota Water Resources Board and the City of Winona will work together to incorporate a water theme into classes, service-learning projects, presentations and community activities beginning in fall of 2008.
Plans also include highlighting and decorating public drinking fountains on the college campuses and in the City of Winona, as well as raising awareness about our drinking water through visual art and performance. The goal of the project is for students and community members to achieve a broader and deeper understanding of water quality and stewardship.
This project is supported by a grant in the amount of $20,000 from the State of Minnesota, through the Minnesota Office of Higher Education and coordinated by Minnesota Campus Compact. A total of $169,830 in grants has been awarded to nine campus/community partnerships through the Community Service-Learning & Campus-Community Collaboration Initiatives program. The purpose of the program is to increase the quality, impact and sustainability of community service-learning efforts and campus-community collaboration initiatives statewide.
