WSU Announces Honor Marshals for Commencement

Winona State University announces the selection of Spring 2008 Commencement processional college banner carriers and degree candidate readers.

The students honored as college banner carriers are the highest academic ranking juniors in each of WSU's five colleges. The selected students carry the banners of their respective colleges during the Commencement ceremonies. The highest-ranking junior overall carries the WSU banner.

The banner bearers lead more than 900 spring 2008 graduates in the processional for WSU's Commencement ceremonies on Friday, May 2, at 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., at McCown Gymnasium in Memorial Hall.

Samantha Duellman, an accounting and business administration student from Fountain City, Wis., leads the morning Commencement processional with the WSU banner. Dason Kurkiewicz, a mathematics and statistics student from Lake Mills, Wis., leads the afternoon Commencement processional with the WSU Banner.

Also serving as college banner carriers are Kayla Harvey, a marketing and psychology student from La Crosse, Wis., College of Business banner; Rachel Smith, a mass communication student from Champlin, Minn., College of Liberal Arts banner; Kelly Covers, an early childhood and special education student from Prairie du Sac, Wis., College of Education banner; Tiffany Koch, a nursing student from La Crescent, Minn., College of Nursing and Health Sciences banner; and Nathan Verschaetse, a biology student from Faribault, Minn., College of Science and Engineering banner.

Students chosen to introduce the degree candidates at Commencement are Melodie Bard, a communication studies student from Coon Rapids, Minn., and Rebeccah Pierson, a communication studies student from Big Lake, Minn. These individuals were selected for the honor by faculty in the WSU Communication Studies Department.
