Scott Botcher

Following graduation from WSU with a BS in Public Administration, I attended Hamline University in St. Paul and received my Masters in Public Administration in 1989. I have 10+ years experience as a City Manager or Administrator, serving as City Manager of Chanhassen, MN, since 1994.

If students have an interest in local government management, realize early on in your stay at WSU (as I did) that the placement office will be of no value. Few meaningful positions are available in local government without a Masters degree. Find a graduate school with a local government focus; not a 'general' type degree. Network with alumni; I hope that students will use me as a resource and call, visit or write. Finally, maintain personal and professional flexibility; your marketability will increase markedly.
