FREDER

Kara Lindaman received her Ph.D. in Public Administration, American Government and Comparative Politics from the University of Kansas in 2002.  She joined her family at Winona State University as an assistant professor in 2006 after serving in the same position at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse since 2002.  Her research interests are varied and include public budgeting and finance, social and morality policy and comparative administration.  Some of her most recent publications include: “Place Your Bet on Politics:  Local Governments Roll the Dice,” in Politics and Policy 35(2) June 2007; “Lose, Win, or Draw?  A Reexamination of Direct Democracy and Minority Rights,” in Political Research Quarterly 60(2) June 2007 (Co-authors: Donald P. Haider-Markel and Alana Querze); “Beyond Efficiency and Economy: An Examination of Basic Needs and Decentralization,” in Journal of Economic Development and Cultural Change 50(4) 2002 (Co-author: Kurt Thurmaier);  “Beyond Race, Welfare, and Abortion: Reexamining Issue Evolution,” in Political Research Quarterly 55(1) 2002 (Co-author: Donald Haider-Markel); “Motor Voter : A License for Roll-off,” in American Review of Politics 21 Fall 2000 (Co-author: Mark Joslyn); “Implementing Welfare Reform in Kansas: Moving, But Not Racing,” Publius 28(3) 1998 (Co-author: Jocelyn Johnston).  She teaches courses in public administration, American politics, research methods, and public policy where she encourages undergraduate research.  In the summer of 2005 she led a study abroad experience to Vienna, Austria where she taught a course on gender issues in international politics.  She is also the advisor for WSU Rho Alpha Chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, the American Political Science Association’s national honor society.  In her outside time she enjoys spending time with her three children and exploring their worlds.  Rock Chalk Jayhawk!
