Political Science/Public Administration Scholarship  ($500)

    Senior Scholarship:

Selection Process and Criteria:

        1.Academic Record
        2.Ability and promise in the field

        1. An essay describing career goals and objectives
        2. A sample research paper which may be written specifically 
            for this purpose or might have been submitted for 
            completion of a course requirement in one of the 
            department's courses
        3. A written recommendation from a faculty member
        4. A transcript of the courses completed at Winona State 
            University

    Junior Scholarship ($500)

Qualifications of Recipients:

  

Selection Process and Criteria:

     a.    Academic Record
b.    Ability and promise in the field

       a. An essay describing career goals and objectives and    
            how the study of political science contributes to their 
            achievement
.

        b. A sample research paper which may be 
           written specifically for this purpose or might have 
           been submitted for completion of a course requirement 
           in one of the department's courses
.

       c. A written recommendation from a faculty member 
           of the department of Political Science and Public 
           Administration
.


      
d. A transcript of the courses completed at Winona State 
           University.

Terry L. Lierman Scholarship

The department is pleased to acknowledge receipt of a $ 35,443.75 scholarship endowment fund from one of its alumni, Mr. Terry Lierman, President of Capitol Associates, Washington, D. C. This donation was received in 1999. The proceeds from this endowment will be used to award scholarships.

For the 2007-2008 academic year we have the opportunity to award two $1,000.00 scholarships to students meeting the criterea.

Applications will be invited during the spring semester but no later than March 23rd.

Following are the conditions of the endowment:

Qualifications of Recipients:

 1. Recipients must be undergraduate   
     students enrolled full-time or part-time at   
     Winona State University
.

2.  Recipients must be classified as a 
     sophomore or junior in good 
     standing at Winona State University with a 
     minimum of 2.25 grade point average at the 
     end of each semester.

3.  Recipients must be declared majors in one of 
     Winona State University's Political Science 
     Programs.

4.  Recipients must demonstrate potential for 
     success in their chosen career options.

5.  Recipients must demonstrate financial need 
     through the Financial Aid Office.

6.  Recipients must have performed at least 40   
     hours of public service during their college 
    careers. Such public service shall consist of 
    activities such as volunteering in the 
    community, working for government, or 
     being involved in politics.

7. Recipients must declare a commitment to 
   remain engaged in public service in the future.

Selection Process:

  1. The award shall be given to recipients who meet the qualifications listed above.
  2. Students must submit a letter of application including:
  • a  statement showing their interest in the field of Political Science
  • a statement of their career objectives
  • a statement reflecting their financial need
  • a transcript of work completed at the time of application, 
  • a letter of recommendation from at least one Political Science faculty member
  • documented evidence of having performed public service
  • and a statement of intention to remain engaged in public service in the future.

     3.   Selection of the awardee(s) shall be made by the
            Political Science Department with a    
            recommendation from a committee of at least three 
            (including one student) within the Department.

  • Committee will rank order applicants based on criteria listed above
  • Committee will submit list of eligible applicants to Financial Aid Office for verification of financial eligibility
  • Committee will first select candidates based on financial need and then give preference to those who have performed public service. In the absence of public service, awards will be based on financial need and gpa requirements. Committee will report to the department for a final decision
