Art

The Minnesota Marine Art Museum features historic marine art, artifacts and objects ranging from items such as:

  • personal letters from Lord Admiral Horatio Nelson to his wife
  • a large stained glass window displayed in the Museum’s atrium
  • carved-wood folk art by local artist Leo Smith
  • Impressionism and Hudson River school works from Renoir, Monet, Pissarro, Homer, Sisley, Cole, Bierstadt, Buttersworth, Silva, and one of Vincent van Gogh's first oil paintings

The Museum will also be displaying the the following featured exhibitions:

  • 150 Years on Minnesota's Waters: Paintings from the Minnesota Historical Society's Art Collection
  • Photography by Cameron Glendenning: The Deadliest Catch
  • Valor in Marine Art

History

Winona County History Center, founded in 1935, is Minnesota’s largest county historical society.

During April, the History Center will be featuring “Curious Collections.”

Music

Midwest Music Fest, April 18-20, features more than 70 bands and musical acts at various venues around the community to raise funds for local non-profit organizations.

Music Gala Weekend: Works by contemporary composer Stephen Paulus will be performed by all music ensembles, Jazz, Choir, Chamber Orchestra and the Symphonic Wind Ensemble, at Winona State University.

Outdoors

Garvin Heights : Garvin is a drive-up lookout at the top of the bluffs that offers a scenic birds-eye-view of Winona without having to hike -- a car will get you there.

Lake Park : Lake Park, located a few blocks from the WSU Main Campus, is a city park surrounding Lake Winona that encompasses a rose garden with gazebo, picnic sites, band shell, playgrounds and five miles of walk/biking trails.
