Seating

Doors open 1 hour prior to the ceremony. There are no tickets for this event. We strongly encourage no more than 6 guests per graduate. If seating on the bleachers would be uncomfortable, it is possible for friends and family to view the ceremony from the Integrated Wellness Complex (IWC) Room 143 and the Harriet Johnson Auditorium in Somsen Hall, which is adjacent to McCown Gymnasium. 

Limited Senior Citizen Seating will be available in specified sections located on the main floor.

Strollers will not be allowed in McCown Gymnasium or the Harriet Johnson Auditorium during the Commencement ceremony. IWC 145 is reserved for stroller parking. Please note that this room is not monitored.

Flowers: A limited number of fresh cut flower bouquets will be available for purchase in the lobby of the IWC near McCown gym. Note that balloons are not allowed in the gym. We can hold them for you until after the ceremony.

Recessional

The recessional will follow the commencement ceremony. Graduates will follow the stage party and faculty. Guests are asked to wait until graduates have left the hall. Please make a plan to meet at a specified location away from McCown gym.

Directions

Minneapolis/St. Paul
Take U.S. Highway 61 south into Winona. Stay on 61 until stoplight at Huff Street. Turn left on Huff. Then take a right onto Sarnia Street at stoplight. Turn left onto Main Street at four-way stop. Entrances to the Gold and Purple lots are on the left.

The west via I-90
Take I-90 east to Highway 43 north, exit 252. Turn left onto Highway 43, which brings you into Winona. At the stoplight, take a left onto Highway 43N (Homer Road) and go to the stoplight. Turn left onto Highway 14/61. Follow 61 until stoplight at Huff Street. Turn right onto Huff, then right onto Sarnia Street at stoplight. Turn left onto Main Street at four-way stop. Entrances to the Gold and Purple lots are on the left.

La Crosse, Madison, Milwaukee, Chicago
Take I-90 west to La Crosse and into Minnesota. Take the “To Winona” exit on U.S. Highway 61 and follow into Winona. Stay on 61 until stoplight at Huff Street. Turn right at Huff; then take a right onto Sarnia Street at stoplight. Turn left onto Main Street at four-way stop. Entrances to the Gold and Purple lots are on the left.

Rochester, Owatonna and Mankato via Highway 14
Take U.S. Highway 14 east into Winona. Turn right on U.S. Highway 14/61. Follow 61 until stoplight at Huff Street. Turn left at Huff; then take a right onto Sarnia Street at stoplight. Turn left onto Main Street at four-way stop. Entrances to the Gold and Purple lots are on the left.


Commencement Family Lodging

Commencement housing is available! (PDF) Families attending our commencement ceremonies are able to stay at the Tau Center on our West Campus during graduation weekend. Single rooms with linen are $15 per person per night. For more information contact WSU housing at tau@winona.edu or call 507.474.3900.

Parking

Parking lots on campus are available for commencement guests the day of the ceremony. You can view parking lot options online in advance of your trip. A Winona city map, directions to campus and other directional tools are available here.
