Alexander Yard Memorial Course Series
Spring, 2008
Courses designated by the WSU Residential College as “Yard Series” courses have as their primary focus one or both of the following:• A topic of timely interest not usually found in the traditional curriculum
and/or
• A problem, issue or need in a communityDistinctive features of the Yard Series:
• A visiting scholar / artist-in-residence will be invited to work with the students in the Yard Series courses for a period of up to 2 weeks.
• Typically project-oriented and participatory in nature, each of the series courses will have a significant budget to fund a major class project.
• The series will be offered only during spring term. All Yard Series courses will qualify as University Studies courses and be scheduled to meet on the west campus.
• Priority registration for Yard courses will be made available to students living at the Residential College (Lourdes, Maria and the Tau Center). Yard courses will be available to students from across the university on a space available basis.In memory of former WSU Faculty Association President, Professor of History, and Residential College Fellow, Alexander “Bud” Yard, the “Yard Series” is offered for University Studies credit at the WSU Residential College. Professor Yard is remembered for his ability to see the world through a unique lens and his deep commitment to the community.Courses in the Alex Yard Memorial Course Series
will be announced during Fall term 2007.
