Gender and Culture
The Gender and Cultural studies program is designed to provide an understanding of the social political, economic and personal factors that underlie the construction of gender in society.

You will be pre-registered in three courses, total.
Introduction to Higher Education: Gender and Culture (Orientation)
and either
College Reading and Writing or Fundamentals of Speech Communication
plus one of the following courses below:

Women’s Health

A study of contemporary issues in women’s health and health-related disciplines within the U.S. health care system. Focus is on preparing students to make their own health care decisions.

Introduction to Women’s Studies

An introduction to the interdisciplinary study of women and gender in society. The course, which is team-taught by faculty from different disciplines, examines the social construction of gender roles and the resulting effects on women’s and men’s lives.

Approaches to Film: Gender and Culture

An examination of gender and culture in the narrative film, 1915-2004. Through class discussions and collaborative projects, students will examine the roles gender plays in a variety of popular American films.

Power, Privilege and Gender

Explores the social construction of differences that lead to power and privilege in modern society. Issues of race, class, sexual orientation and gender are considered.
