Global Villiage

Endings and Beginnings

The Mississippi River

Our Gender and Culture theme is designed to provide an understanding of the social political, economic and personal factors that underlie the construction of gender in society
We live in a global village. World music, the forces of globalization, the global environment, conflicts from across the world, all influence our lives and careers. This theme will explore what it means to live in the Global Village.
Life is full of endings, beginnings and the transitions between. The courses in this theme will explore those beginnings and endings through art, theatre, literature and history.
Through coursework, a camping trip, guest speakers, a steamboat ride and other events, students will explore something of this rich, multifaceted part of the American fabric. We'll read about the river, canoe its backwaters, interpret it in dance and photographs, and listen to the songs of those who lived on its banks long ago.
