The goals of the WSU Retiree Center encompass educational, social and service opportunities. The educational goal involves a variety of continuing education and intellectual enrichment opportunities for retirees …almost anything - from short courses on computers to classes on a range of contemporary topics of academic interest. Retirement planning, investment planning and preparation for lifestyle changes of retirement are offered. Classes may be taught by professionals and experiences volunteer faculty, staff or members of the community as a means of enhancing learning among Retirees and helping build a multi-generational campus at Winona State University.

 

Maintaining and enhancing social relationships is an important aspect of retirement and a key goal of the WSU Retiree Center. The WSU Retiree Center sponsors social gatherings including receptions, book clubs, speakers, discussion groups, fitness activities and events that provide retired personnel to remain socially connected at the University. WSU Retirees preserve bonds with the extended community of retirees that supports the mission and builds a multi-generational Winona State University campus. An important goal of the WSU Retiree Center is providing service to the University in many and varied ways. WSU Retirees can serve in many volunteer capacities:

Advisor
Alumni events
Campus tour guide
Guest speaker in class
Guest speaker in the community
Mentor
Teach an orientation class
Tutor

University committee member
University development /fund raising
Usher at university cultural or athletic events …among the almost unlimited ways WSU Retirees can be of service.

These institutional connections permit WSU Retirees to utilize their knowledge, skills and institutional relationships to provide needed service in support of academic affairs, student life, university advancement, facilities management and many other areas of the university.
