Subject: WSU’s Outreach and Continuing Education Department Receives Two Grants

WINONA, Minn. (WSU-UC)- Winona State University’s Outreach and Continuing Education Department received two grants to establish an Energy Resource Advisor (ERA) Certification course and to advance the Healthcare Leadership Cooperative Project in Rochester.

The first grant, in the amount of $30,000, will aid in developing a new curriculum for an ERA certificate, and was conferred by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.  It is intended to establish a green economy based on energy independence, green technology and green jobs.  ERA certification will encourage environmental responsibility and stewardship through the knowledge of energy resource issues and opportunities, as well as provide a foundation for advanced study in environmental sustainability.

The curriculum will be founded in collaboration with the Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning Center, and will also be shared with five other Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System institutions. The goal is to establish the program by August and launch it in the fall.

The second grant, in the amount of $42,000, was awarded by HealthForce Minnesota.  The grant allows OCED to partner with Madonna Living Communities in Rochester to advance the Healthcare Leadership Cooperative Project from a single-facility location model to a regional delivery model.

The grant will facilitate new methods of assessing, developing and sustaining leadership capacity for healthcare providers.  The funds will be used to identify capability gaps and training solutions for a regional group of healthcare professionals from other Benedictine facilities in southeast Minnesota.  This program will likely take a year to complete.

The mission of the WSU Outreach and Continuing Education Department is to provide dynamic leadership that supports quality learning programs for diverse audiences through innovative continuing education and outreach experiences
