Accreditation

The Master of Science Program in Nursing is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC).  Preliminary approval of the program has been granted by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

Purpose

The Master of Science program in Nursing at Winona State University educates nurses for advance practice where change is constant.  The program provides a strong clinical base in advance nursing practice.  Students select a focus of Nurse Administrator, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Nurse Education, Adult or Family Nurse Practitioner.

Focus: Family Nurse Practitioner

Students will be prepared to perform an expanded role in the delivery of primary health care.  In addition to the core courses, content includes comprehensive assessment of the health status of adults/families; management of common acute and chronic health problems; provision of counseling and teaching in areas of health promotion and disease prevention; and collaboration with other health professionals.  Clinical practicums under the supervision of qualified nurse practitioner and physician preceptors will focus on primary health care in a variety of settings with emphasis on rural and underserved communities.  Family Nurse Practitioner students have additional theory and clinical content related to the care of children.
