Computer Information
Systems
Through the 2+2 program, students can complete this Bachelor of Science degree in its entirety in Rochester by completing lower division credits at Rochester Community and Technical College and the major's upper division credits at WSU-Rochester. The CIS major is in-depth and require no minor. Incoming transfer students should consult with a Computer Science advisor before registering for courses. All required courses and elective courses for a major/minor must be taken for a letter grade except for CS 491. To graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems, a total of 128 credits are required. Normally, 64 credits can be transferred from a two-year institution and the remainder can be taken from WSU or transferred from a four-year institution. At least 30 semester hours must be taken from WSU Computer Information System classes are designed to give students an understanding and appreciation for both theoretical and applied Computer Science which will prepare them for careers in industry or further study at the graduate level. Prerequisites The prerequisites for Computer Information Systems courses must be met with a "C" grade or better. Students who have not met the prerequisites with a grade of "C" or better before the course begins will be dropped from that class. Entrance Requirements All students applying for entrance to a Computer Information Systems major shall have completed the following courses with a "C" grade or better in each and shall have a minimum GPA of 2.25 for the following three courses: WSU Courses RCTC Equivalent CS 234 Algorithms & Problem Solving COMP 2243 Programmaing & Problem Solving CS 250 Algorithms & Problem Solving II COMP 2247 Algorithms and Data Structures CS 245 Math Foundation of Algorithms Math 2218 Discrete Mathematics & Foundations Applicants must have a minimum overall GPA of 2.5. In addition to these requirements, the student must meet with a department advisor and complete a Department Major Application form. Before acceptance to a Computer Science major, all students are given provisional status and will be assigned advisors in the same way as students who are accepted majors. Students interested in becoming a Computer Information Systems major should ask to be assigned an advisor as soon as possible. Graduation Requirements
