Book Buy Back
The UCR Bookstore conducts buyback most days during the year (subject to change) at the service counter inside the Bookstore. No receipt is needed for buyback, but a picture ID is required. Prices paid for books are based on the current prices from the wholesale textbook guide.
End of Term Buyback
At the end of semester, during finals, a book buyer from one of the major wholesalers will host the buyback. If the book is bought for resale at the UCR Bookstore, the student is offered 60% of the purchase price. Once the Bookstore has filled its quota, the price will drop from 60% to the wholesale price. The wholesale price of the book is determined by national demand, inventory in the wholesaler's warehouse and edition status.
When the student is told "we are not buying this book" there are a number of reasons:
- An instructor has not adopted the book for the upcoming term.
- The Bookstore already has sufficient quantities of the book in stock.
- The wholesaler is overstocked on the title.
- The book has been replaced by an updated edition and has not resale value.
- Study guides and workbooks are written in.
- Condition of the book may be too poor or incomplete to be resold:
- CD's, disks or pages are missing.
- Pages are torn or water damaged.
- Poor Bindings or books are worn and frayed.
