Improve Your Score

You may take up to five assessments within twelve months. You must wait a minimum of 48 hours between assessments and spend a minimum of 3 hours working in your prep and learning module.

After Your Initial ALEKS Assessment

A beginning class will be suggested for you and an appropriate learning module will become available to you. The learning module will be available for six months once you begin work in the module.

After your initial assessment you will fit into one of three scenarios:

Does Your ALEKS Score Agree with Your Placement?

If the ALEKS suggested class matches the class into which you have been placed using either ACT or Accuplacer congratulations! You have been placed in the correct class. You may use the provided learning module to get a head start on your class. The module will help you prepare for many of the topics that will be presented once your class begins.

Does Your ALEKS Score Suggest a Lower Placement?

If the ALEKS suggested class is below the level of the class into which you have been placed you may use the learning module to help strengthen your skills before class begins. You may retake the assessment up to five times during the twelve months after your access begins. Please contact your advisor or the Math Department Chair if after subsequent assessments your ALEKS suggested class remains at a lower level than the class you are registered for. It may be in your best interest to drop your current class and enroll in the ALEKS suggested class which is a better match for your current abilities. Some classes fill early so the sooner you do this the better. You may to continue use the learning module to prepare for your new class.

Does Your ALEKS Score Suggest a Higher Placement?

If the ALEKS suggested class is at a higher level than the class into which you have been placed you may be able to have your math class changed. Schedule a meeting with the Chair of the Mathematics and Statistics Department as soon as possible before classes begin. The Chair may use your demonstrated ability on your ALEKS assessment to allow you to take the higher level class. Some classes fill quickly so the sooner you request a change the more options you will have available for schedule changes. Continue using the prep and learning module to strengthen your skills.
