Hazing Policy

Definition of Hazing:  An act which endangers the mental or physical health or safety of a person, subjects a person to public humiliation or ridicule, or which destroys or removes public or private property for the purpose of initiation, admission into, affiliation with, or as a condition for continued membership in a student group/club, organization, or athletic team.  (MnSCU Board Policies, Chapter 3 – Educational Policies, 3.6 Student Conduct.) 

Actions and activities that are explicitly prohibited include, but are not limited to, the following. 

1.  Actions that recklessly or intentionally endanger the physical and mental health or safety of students.
2. Forced or required consumption of any food, liquor, drug, or any other substance.
3. Forced or required participation in physical activities, such as calisthenics, exercise, or so-called games.
4. Excessive fatigue resulting from sleep deprivation, physical activities, or exercise.
5. Assignment of activities that would be illegal or unlawful or might be morally offensive to individual members, associate members, or pledges.
6. Physical brutality, including paddling, striking with fists, open hands, or objects, and branding.
7. Kidnapping--transportation with the intent of stranding individuals.
8. Verbal abuse.
9. Denial of sufficient time to study.
10. The intentional creation of clean-up work or labor for members, associate members, or pledges by active members or alumni.
11. Theft of/or damage to property.

Violation(s) against the WSU Hazing Policy will be processed under the terms and conditions of the WSU Student Conduct Policy and/or the local law authorities
