Sociology Major Requirements

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Complete the B.A. Sociology foundation courses with a grade of “C” or higher.
Complete the program admission application form.

RETENTION AND GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
--Maintain a minimum, cumulative GPA of 2.5 in all B.A. sociology courses taken at WSU.

FOUNDATION COURSES TO BE COMPLETED PRIOR TO ADMISSION  

   ENG      111                 College Reading and Writing (4)

   SOC    150                    Introduction to Sociology (3)

   STAT   110                   Fundamentals of Statistics (3) and 
                                         STAT 115 Laboratory in Statistics (1)
                                         OR

   PSY     231                    Statistics (3)

 * Required for admission; however, the credits are not counted in the 43 credit hours needed in the major.

B.A. SOCIOLOGY- GENERAL OPTION (SOC)
42-43 S.H. (Minor Required)

SOC       377        Theory & Methods in Sociology (3)

SOC       460       Internship (12)

ELECTIVES (18-19 S.H.)-Courses selected within the student’s chosen area must come from the 300-level and above, be selected in consultation with the advisor, and contribute to meeting the goals of the sociology program and student portfolio requirement.  (Note that all field courses require an additional fee to cover malpractice liability insurance.)
