Admission and Retention Requirements

1.  Completion of B. A. Sociology foundation courses with a grade of "C" or higher in each course.  The same criteria will be applied to transfer credit for comparable courses completed at other institutions.

2.  Application Process-Completion of the application form, which is available in the Sociology Department office, Minné 228. Link to admission Application

3.  Program Retention- Once admitted to the program, students must demonstrate acceptable progress in order to remain in good standing. "Acceptable" progress is defined by meeting the following retention requirements:  Students must maintain a 2.50 cumulative grade point average in all B. A. Sociology courses, with no course grade below a “C,” for all courses within the Department at Winona State University.

4.  Confidentiality of Records- All written deliberations shall be considered confidential and available only to B. A. Sociology professors unless the student requests otherwise.

5.  Right to Appeal- Applicants who are denied admission or are dismissed from the program have the right to appeal the decision through the following channels: Chair of the Department of Sociology; Dean of the college of Liberal Arts; Vice President of Academic Affairs; and President of the University.
