TENURE TRACK POSITION IN STATISTICS

Position: Tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor position in Statistics starting Fall 2009 in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics.  Starting salary is commensurate with rank and experience.

Responsibilities:  Primary duty is to teach a wide variety of undergraduate statistics courses.  Duties may also include teaching master’s or doctorate level service courses.  Possibilities exist for a reduction in teaching load through significant collaborative work with regional industries and/or medical facilities.  Research is encouraged as part of a faculty member's overall scholarly and creative activity.  Active participation in departmental and university efforts including committee work and student advising is required.

Qualifications: Ph.D. in Statistics or Biostatistics with an anticipated completion date by August 2009.  Candidates must provide evidence of:

  • excellence in teaching and

  • strong communication skills.

     Preference will be given to candidates who have:

  • knowledge of both applied and theoretical statistics,

  • he ability to work cooperatively with colleagues,

  • interest in research involving undergraduate students, grant writing and curriculum development,

  •  interest and ability to consult with university and non-university personnel, and

  • expertise in biostatistics, statistical education, or sampling/survey methods.

 Department:  The statistics program at Winona State University has achieved a national reputation for excellence.  Students have recently completed internships at the Census Bureau, Mayo Clinic, Gundersen Lutheran and other industries.  A large percentage of graduates have pursued graduate study.  The Department of Mathematics and Statistics has 23 full-time faculty members including 7 statistics faculty.   The department offers majors and minors in statistics, mathematics, and mathematics education.   The statistics curriculum includes 21 courses in statistics.  For more information on the statistics program see www.winona.edu/statistics.
