Pay Rate and Pay Stubs

Pay Rate

Student employees earn the minimum wage set by Winona State University. The current minimum wage is $8.40 per hour. If you have questions, you may discuss your rate of pay with your supervisor at the time you are hired. There are many positions on campus that pay a higher rate of pay based on the specific nature of the work or special skills or abilities that are required for the position.

If you are on work-study and receiving a higher rate of pay, please note that your hours will be paid at the minimum rate of pay from the work-study program. The difference in pay between your higher rate and minimum wage will be paid to you in the form of a lump sum payment. For example, if you are a work-study employee, and you work 20 hours and earning $10.00 per hour, your pay stub will reflect the following:
  • 20 hours at $8.40 per hour = $168.00
  • Lump sum payment of $32.00 (20 hours @ $1.60/hour)
  • Total gross payment = $200  (the same as if you were paid 20 hours at $10.00/hour)
