Tutoring
SSS offers free tutoring to eligible participants. Here are the answers to some frequently asked questions about our tutoring services.
How do I know if I'm eligible to see SSS tutors?
To find out if you're eligible, simply call us at 457-5465 or come to Krueger Library Room 219 anytime from 8:00 - 4:30 to schedule a registration interview.
The registration interview will take approximately 30 minutes. During that time, the advisor will ask you questions to determine if you're eligible for the program.
What if I'm not eligible to see SSS tutors?
Don't worry. If you're not eligible, there are still many free tutors available at WSU. The advisor will inform you of other campus resources and tutoring sources. For information and links to many of these resources, click here.
What subjects are there tutors for?
All the tutors can help you with study skills and time management. There is also tutoring in the following classes/subjects. In addition to seeing a peer tutor, we highly recommend going to your professor for help.

What if I need tutoring in a subject that isn't on the list?
Please contact Jill Quandt at jquandt@winona.edu to request a tutor. Efforts will be made to hire a tutor to work with you.
How long are the tutoring appointments?
You can sign up for either a 1/2 hour or hour-long appointment.
What should I bring to a tutoring appointment?
Bring your textbook, notes, assignment descriptions, worksheets, etc. In general, bring anything you have that might be helpful.
Where will I meet with the tutor?
Generally, unless you arrange an evening or weekend appointment, you will meet the tutor in Krueger Library Room 220.
What if I have to cancel an appointment?
Just stop by our office and cross out/erase your name from the schedule or call us at 457-5465 and let us know you have to cancel.
How do I make an appointment?
Once you are registered you can make an appointment with any of the tutors by signing up on the schedules in our reception area. Many of the tutors have additional time available for arranged appointments. Simply stop in Krueger Library Room 219 or email the tutor to set up a time that works for you both.
Are there evening or weekend appointments?
Perhaps. Most of the tutors have additional hours available for arranged appointments, just stop by Krueger Library Room 219 or email a specific tutor to set up a time that works for both of you. Additionally, the Academic Assistance Center and the Math Department tutors are available in the evenings. Follow the links to see their schedules.
