Hong Kong has the big city specials like New York City, but it's also efficient and tranquil: the transport network is excellent, the shopping centres are sublime, and the temples and quiet corners of parks are peaceful retreats.  The best thing about being in Hong Kong is getting bewildered by the swarm of a Chinese city with multi-Asian and Western elements.  It's about savoring new tastes, and acquiring fresh stories.   In this awe-inspiring city, Hong Kong University serves as a focal point of intellectual and academic endeavor, and acts as a gateway and forum for scholarship with the rest of the world.

The antiquity and dignified identity of HKU promotes the cultivation of internationalism throughout the campus.  Have the benefit of living in one of the residence halls for a semester or a full year and form friendships with those that know the city the best.   By becoming an international student of HKU, you will enter an exciting chapter in your life. While Hong Kong is a dynamic city full of colors, the University also has much to offer to you both academically and culturally.  Come across the location where east meets west and study at HKU.

Buddy Programme

The Office of International Student Exchange at HKU (OISE) operates a 'buddy programme' whereby each incoming exchange student is assigned a 'buddy' i.e. a local undergraduate or postgraduate student to help them to settle down in a new environment and to integrate with the local community.

A buddy will

  • Meet exchange students at the airport;
  • Assist exchange students in settling into residences;
  • Assist in the organization of Orientation activities and other functions for exchange students;
  • Arrange for exchange students to participate in university orientation activities;
  • Offer advice and help the exchange students during their stay in Hong Kong;
  • Be a friend and have fun together!

**Application form for the buddy programme will be sent to students in the acceptance packet once admitted to the university.
