In addition to filling out the WSU General Study Abroad Application found on the Study Abroad Home Page, students wishing to study at HKU will be required to supply the following documents and download the HKU Admission Application form.

Documents required are:

  • evidence of proficiency in English, e.g. TOEFL scores, if English is not the applicant’s first language; and
  • certified true copies of certificates and academic transcripts relevant to the application.  If these are not in English, they must be accompanied by a certified translation in English.
  • completed sponsorship application needed to complete visa requirements [Download]

**Photocopies of documents not properly certified/notarized will not be accepted. Please do not send your original documents by post. The University is not responsible for any documents lost in the post.

Student Visas

How to apply

If you are planning on studying in Hong Kong for longer than 90 days, you must go to the Chinese Consulate in Chicago to submit the visa application, or you may entrust someone else, such as the WSU Study Abroad Office, to go to the visa office of the Chinese Consulate in Chicago for application processing.

  • Mail applications are not acceptable and will be refused.
  • No appointment is required.

Documents to be included:

  • Duly completed application forms ID(E)936A, ID(E)936E and ID(E)936L;  [Download]
  • Duly completed form ID(E)936B completed by the sponsor, usually the educational institution; [Download]  (must complete sponsorship application)
  • Proofs showing the student's academic qualifications and acceptance by the institutions concerned;
  • Duly completed Declaration on Applicant's living cost and financial proof ID(E)936K; [Download]
  • Copies of the valid travel documents and other supporting identification papers.
  • Visa fee $30 and Liaison fee $20 are payable by Money Order, Cashier's Check, Company Check or Cash.  Personal checks are not acceptable. Please make the check or money order payable to Chinese Consulate in Chicago.

**Processing time is not fixed. The Embassy or Consulate Generals shall issue visas according to the response from the Hong Kong Immigration Department.
