Classes at HKU correspond directly with Global Studies Classes and Chinese Language Courses.  All courses with exception of the Chinese language courses are taught in English. Students should select courses according to the regulations, procedures and rules laid down from time to time by the faculty and the department concerned. The number of courses selected should not normally exceed those offered to a regular student of the university. Acceptance into selected courses will be determined by the heads of departments concerned.

Chinese Language Programmes

In response to the demand from exchange students for the provision of Chinese language training, all exchange students are eligible to apply for admission in Putonghua or Cantonese language courses offered by the Department of Chinese.
The University hopes that exchange students can take the opportunity to acquire some basic knowledge of the Chinese language so that they can learn to appreciate the Chinese culture and integrate better with the local community. Putonghua and Cantonese courses at elementary and intermediate levels will be offered according to demand. These courses include vocabulary building, pronunciation, grammar and oral skills training among others. Students are expected to be able to conduct simple conversation in Putonghua or Cantonese, and to have an enhanced understanding of the Chinese culture by the end of the course. Exchange students are encouraged to optimize this valuable opportunity!!!
