Non-WSU Programs

Consortium Agreements

Programs Available Through Other Universities

Students are not limited to the programs offered through Winona State.  There is also the option of enrolling in WSU-sanctioned programs through other universities.  Through special agreements with other U.S. universities including sister schools of the MnSCU system, students have a wide range of programs from which to choose.  Many of our students have gone on programs through University of Wisconsin Platteville, Stout, Eau Claire and LaCrosse.

The first step is determining personal goals.  Different programs offer a varied arrange of educational options.  Such questions to consider when setting your goals should include:

  • Why do I want to study abroad?
  • How long do I want to study abroad?
  • When do I want to study abroad?
  • In what part of the world do I want to study?
  • What type of housing is the program offering (homestay, dormitories, off-campus housing)?
  • What type of classes are offered?
  • Is the program in a location that I prefer?
  • Are there cultural activities offered that will help me immerse myself into the culture?
  • Is there an orientation session upon arrival?
  • What is the cost of the program compared to similar programs?
  • What are the cost and benefits of the program?

Questions to consider will vary according to overall expectation of the study abroad experience.  Make sure, however, that when a specific program is finally choosen that is correlates with what you want to accomplish.  Remember, the places that common locations of study abroad tend to be more expensive and offer fewer scholarships.  If money is an issue, consider traveling to Asia, Africa or South America.  You may find that these locations will grant unique opportunites that only a few ever experience.

Finally, it is important to coordinate the application process, so students are encouraged to work closely with the International Studies Director of the other universities to get information and process their applications.  The application for Non-WSU Programs can be found below.  Students must fill out this application along with the application of the selected program before accepted to study abroad.  Best of Luck!
